To make perfect prairie points:

* cut fabric strip and press in half,
wrong sides together
* add stitching near fold to make stitched prairie points (optional)

* cut into segments and place on pressing
surface right side down (there is only a right side if you added stitching ... bobbin threads are difficult to see in this photo) with folded edge away

* place tool over PP and bring top corners
to center line(notice the optional fancy stitching?)

* place iron over PP

* slide tool out before it gets warm
and steam if fabric permits

* Ta Da!
Prairie Pointer
pressing tool
as seen in McCall's Quilting, August issue (available NOW)

Prairie points add flare to many projects including quilts, garments and home dec items. They can be sophisticated details, bold highlights, or perky accents.

Making perfect prairie points has never been easier! Sometimes it's frustrating getting a sharp tip on a PP with all cut edges lining up perfectly, but the Prairie Pointer eliminates the frustration and prduces perfect prairie points every time!

I've recently learned that the tool is also perfect for turning and pressing a dresden point blade ... who knew?

. Prairie points with folds meeting in the center ranging in size from 1/2"-2 1/2" in height may be created
. tool is made of thin stainless steel with acid etching showing guides for perfect PPs
. tool slides out of PP easily so PP may be pressed completely after tool is removed
. stainless steel tool will not warp or rust when exposed to extreme heat or steam
. detailed instructions with illustrations
. instructions teach how to determine what size fabric strip to cut
. yardage chart included to find how many prairie points of a certain size may be cut from a fat quarter, half yard or yard of fabric

. ideas for variations such as stitched prairie points included

NEW for 2010! Spagetti 12wt cotton thread by WonderFil
colors by Susan K Cleveland

WonderFil Spagetti 12wt cotton thread, 400m (~440yds) $8
(click on photo for more info and ordering)
I've worked with the Canadian thread company, Wonderfil, to design 20 colors of their fabulous 12wt cotton thread, Spagetti. This is the nicest 12wt cotton on the market because it is so smooth. It's double-gassed and tightly twisted so machines love it. It's great for machine or hand quilting, machine or hand applique, redwork, wool applique, pick stitching fine garments, and many other applications.
I
use it for quilting bold lines, for stitching over piping, and for embellishing prairie points. (90/14 or 100/16 topstitch machine needle with regular 50 or 60wt cotton thread in bobbin or 8 between hand sewing needle)
Note:
Colors may appear differently on various displays/printers.
