I use this stiletto to guide fabrics while piecing, to guide piping as I sew it along a quilt's edge, and to remove stitches. It also makes applying a piped shape much easier as described in Piping Hot Curves. Many quilters tell me they hold it in a seamline to help quilting in the ditch!
The tip of this stiletto is not as sharp as most, so it doesn't accidentally poke holes in fabric or snag decorative threads but it's still pointed enough to hold fabric in place. I don't hurt myself with this stiletto either! The handle is rounded and comfortable to hold.
This tool may also be used to separate threads to insert stuffing for trapunto.
I have a collection of stilettos but this one and the curved stiletto are the ones I strongly prefer!
