Prairie Pointer

Prairie points can be charming surprises in quilts when they're included in piecing or in a quilt's binding. Traditionally they are evenly spaced around the outer edge of a quilt pointing outward, but why can't they be used as accents anywhere? Adding stitching, adding beads, adding a contrast lining, and using a variety of PPs in a quilt can really make a piece pop!

Instructions include details on cutting, stitching and pressing prairie points along with yardage charts so you'll know how much fabric you'll need for each project. Lined (or two-color) prairie point instructions are also included. They can be quite sophisticated and can add an element that really make your quilts much more interesting.

It's surprising how easy it can be to make prairie points and it's amazing what they can do for your projects!

Piping Hot Binding kit

Piping Hot Binding kit includes a detailed booklet of instructions, Groovin' Piping Trimming Tool and 5yds cording.

Groovin' Piping Trimming Tool
To create a perfect seam allowance on piping, simply lay the tool over sewn piping with the cording in the groove then cut along the tool's edge with a rotary cutter. Voila ... a perfect seam allowance. The tool is 11.5" in length so I'm able to trim 400" of piping in about 20 minutes! Two grooves are available offering 1/4" and 1/2" seam allowances

  • Use with cording up to 1/8" in diameter.
  • Turn the ruler for use left-handed.
  • Use any size rotary cutter: 28mm, 45m or 60mm. (Rotary cutter is not included.)
  • Manufactured in the USA

To trim piping with larger cording, use the Groovin' Piping Trimming Tool GRANDE with deeper, wider grooves to accommodate cording up to 1/4" in diameter.

Booklet
Sixteen pages of instructions cover every detail of adding amazing piped bindings to quilts. In 1998 I started teaching this technique and have taught many quilters, from beginners to experts, to create special bindings for their quilts. These instructions have benefited from years of experience and the quilters who have given feedback on this technique.

Cording
5yds of 1/16" piping cording are included in this package. This is the cording I use in my quilts. It's large enough to make piping that gets noticed but small enough to avoid bulk at a quilt's corners.
